No matter what anyone might say, LED lights are the future and the future is here. Installing flush mount LED lights is not as hard a task as it may seem on paper.
If anything, once the lights are in place, they look stylish and elegant not to mention that they take up very small space of your ceiling.
Here are some instructions on how to go about the task:
Step 1. Preparation
This is perhaps the most important stage as it will determine whether you will be successful in your quest or otherwise. Start by turning the power off from the main switch to avoid accidents.
Gather all the tools and materials that you will need for this task including the flush mount LED lights. Other requirements include a flat head screwdriver, Philips screwdriver, step ladder, and an electrician’s tape.
It is also at the preparation stage that you will need to remove the old fixture to create space for your LED lights.
This should not be a problem because once you have turned the power off, all you need to do is pull down the old fixtures then detach the old light’s fixture.
Turn the fixture in a counter-clockwise direction and it will be out in no time. If there was a mounting strap in place, remove it as well.
Step 2. Install the new flush mount LED lights
The second step is to place a new mounting strap in place then install the nipple of your LED lights to it. The nipple is responsible for holding the LED lights in place so you have to be very careful while handling it.
Screw the hex of the nipple a few times so that it is firmly in place but still leaves room for the connection wires to pass. Pull all the 3 wires so that they hung loosely by the side of the nipple.
Step 3. Connect the Wires
After installing the metal mount strap using the provided screwdrivers, the next step is to connect the hanging electricity wires to it. The rule of the thumb here is to always begin with the ground wire before proceeding to the black and white wires.
After connecting them, turn the screws so that the wires are firmly in place. While at it, observe the wires carefully to avoid stranding them together.
Seal the connection with a wire nut while pushing the wires back into the box simultaneously.
Step 4. Finish the Installation
This is not a complicated process if you went around process 2 and 3 above smoothly. The nipple should be passing through the middle of the flush mount.
Take the bottom cover and place it over the nipple then use the screws to hold it in place. The nipple threads provide a good ground to screw the screwdrivers after which it holds the whole lighting system in place.
After everything is in place, run a background check to ascertain that you did every connection correctly. The fixture should be a total flush and if not, you can further adjust the hex on the nipple.
As you may have noticed, the nipple plays a huge role in keeping the lights safe.
Step 5. Turn on the Power
If you are satisfied with your work, it is time to turn the power back on and assess the results. if you notice that circuit breaks up or the fuse blows when you switch the lights on, chances are that you might have connected the wires wrong.
You can solve the problem by rechecking your connections in the box. Otherwise, everything should run smoothly at this stage. The process of installing flush mount LED lights ends here.
Final Word -Installing Flush Mount LED Lights
There is no doubt that many benefits come with LED lights. Once you have made a decision to switch to flush mount LED lights, your next headache is how to install them. Even though the process seems tricky on paper, it is actually very easy if you prepare well.
Gather all the tools and materials that you will need beforehand. You should then go through the above steps keenly, make the right connections so that you won’t have to go back. Fix the fixtures firmly in place using the screwdrivers and you are good to go.
